Review: "Six of Crows" by Leigh Bardugo

I decided to read Six of Crows after hearing countless bloggers and readers obsess about it.  To be honest, the premise did not initially appeal to me that much, but after reading it I can safely say Six of Crows is one of the best books I have read in 2018!  I am so glad that I decided to give it a try.  Hopefully, my review convinces you to read this amazing book!

The Story

Six of Crows tells the exciting story of six individuals who come together and attempt a seemingly incredible heist.  Kaz Brekker, a criminal mastermind, gathers a team he believes can help him to complete the mission.  With a massive monetary prize on the line, the team will do almost anything to succeed.

What I Liked

  • Is everything a reasonable response?
  • The chemistry between characters was FLAWLESS.  I liked how each character had a "partner" who they bounced off of and thrived with.  Inej and Kaz, Jesper and Wylan, Matthias and Nina.  They were a perfect team with vibrant personalities and fascinating motivations.  I could not get enough of Matthias and Nina, and the emotional depth between Jesper and Wylan was incredible.  If you are looking for a book with fantastic characters, Six of Crows is a solid choice.
  • From what I have read so far, Leigh Bardugo seems to be a fabulous world builder!  The Grisha are such a cool concept, and Ketterdam sets the perfect stage for a book about gangs and heists.
  • The ending had a great twist!  For the sake of keeping this a spoiler-free review, I won't share much more, but I was thoroughly impressed by the way Bardugo concluded this book.

What I Didn't Like

  • It ended.
  • I don't have a copy of the sequel yet.
  • It's that good.

Overall

Maybe I'm just a little too excited after reading this incredible book, but I recommend Six of Crows to any and all YA readers.  It is such a thrilling story and is impossible to put down once you start (I read it mostly in one night)!
